The Rwanda Institute of Cooperatives, Entrepreneurship and Microfinance (RICEM) successfully conducted the 2026 Post-Licensing Training on Risk Management for Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) from 23rd to 27th February 2026 at RICEM Kabusunzu.
This training was organized in reference to the DSACCO Capacity Development Program approved under the USACCO Automation and Consolidation Project by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning (MINECOFIN), in collaboration with the National Bank of Rwanda (BNR), the Rwanda Cooperative Agency (RCA), RICEM, and DSIK.
A total of 41 participants from 9 DSACCOs took part in the five-day training program. The initiative was specifically designed to strengthen the capacity of DSACCO Boards, Risk Committees, and staff in effective risk management practices.
The training aimed at enhancing financial sustainability by equipping participants with practical knowledge and tools to identify, assess, monitor, and mitigate key risks affecting microfinance institutions. Emphasis was placed on managing credit, operational, liquidity, and compliance risks while safeguarding members’ deposits and institutional capital.
Throughout the sessions, participants actively engaged in discussions, practical exercises, and experience sharing, reinforcing the importance of strong internal controls, effective governance oversight, and a proactive risk management culture within their institutions.
This capacity-building initiative reflects RICEM’s continued commitment to supporting DSACCOs in strengthening governance frameworks, improving internal control systems, and promoting sustainable microfinance development across Rwanda.
